About

So I really think my first post kinda sums it up…but if you don’t feel clicky today…

Married/Family Life:

Tim (aka the hubs) and I met in February of 2006 at an auction.

Our relationship moved quickly and we were engaged in March 2007.

We spent the next  year and a half moving from Spokane, Washington to San Diego, California and back again.

Oh, and we planned a wedding.

We were married September 6, 2008 at St. Aloysius on Gonzaga’s campus (I graduated with a B.A. from Gonzaga in 2005 and Tim graduated from their Law School in 2007).

Our reception was held at Arbor Crest Winery, in Spokane Valley.

We still live in Spokane and recently purchased our first home. My little brother Jake, (aka Libb: live-in-basement-brother), moved up in June 2010 to live in our basement and attend college.

We love to travel and hope to head back to Europe sometime soon.

No kidlets yet, just furbabies: Rikka the cat (pronounced Ree-ka, like Paprika), and Rilo the dog (named after one of my favorite bands, Rilo Kiley).

Professional life:

I’m currently trying to navigate my first year in a new career.

In May 2010 I graduated with my Master’s degree (Master in Teaching) from Whitworth University. Then I went back to class for summer term, with the rest of my cohort, for 6 more weeks. Then I really graduated.

I spent 2 weeks traveling in Paris and Rome (where my goal was to eat pizza every day, and I succeeded). Upon returning home I spent the rest of my summer applying for, and being rejected from, teaching positions. I applied to a total of 118 positions and 2 weeks before the school year started I landed 3 interviews. I was offered a position in a local middle school to be the Library Media Specialist (aka the Librarian). I have no formal training in the library. This year has been fun and stressful as I try to navigate my way through a new field.

Prior to a career in education I:

Worked in the health care industry

Was the Marketing Director for a 501c3 non-profit dinner theater and restaurant

Was a (long term temp) marketing and publicity coordinator for a book publishing company

Was a promotions coordinator for our local FOX affiliate

Helped people enjoy wine in the tasting room at Arbor Crest Winery (yep, same place we had our wedding reception)

Made people lattes for six years (on and off)

I’ve done a lot of fun things in my career, but am so much more fulfilled now that I am teaching. I’m very happy with my decision to be broke, take out student loans and go back to school to do something I love. If you are contemplating going back to school do your research. Make sure you find a program that fits you and will help you go where you want to go in life. I cannot say enough good things about the Whitworth MIT program, but I also spent 2 years researching my options before I chose them.

Health/Fitness life:

I’m a total foodie and am trying to combine my love of food with my desire to be healthy. I started my blog because I really love food, really hate depriving myself and really want to lose some weight. My goal is to lose the weight in a healthy way, which I’ve never really done before. I’m your stereotypical yo-yo dieter, with a personality that lends myself to extreme and unhealthy measures. In the past I abused diet pills, over-exercised, under-ate and generally felt really lousy.

But, then I found the wonderful world of blogs, particularly the healthy living blogging community. Blogs changed my life. Seriously. I am losing weight at a healthy and slow pace (approximately a half to one pound per week) and am not depriving myself of anything. If I want some skittles I’ll have some skittles, and I wont feel guilty about it. The anxious, guilty feeling I used to get when I would miss a work out or eat something “bad,” hasn’t been around for a while, and I hope that it will not return. I’ve turned a healthy corner and am finally content with who I am and where I am going with my healthy living path. I am still trying and still learning to navigate life without that little voice in the back of my head nagging me.

I started blogging as a way to give back to the healthy living blogging community and as an outlet for myself. So far I love it and can’t believe I didn’t start one before!

So…welcome to my little corner of the blog world. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing/taking photographs.  I love, love, love feedback and comments, so please don’t be shy!
